The Ministry of Tourism also qualifies hotels and pensions that have been converted from historical buildings with a 'Special Certificate1 (S C ). Many of Istanbul's historical and touristic venues are in Sultanahmet, a district where one will find many of those specially certified hotels and pension conversions. Sultanahmet is conveniently located to reach business centers such as Aksaray or Beyazit.

Beyoglu is the city's entertainment center and is also quite historically significant as well whereas one will find many of the five-star and historical hotels in this area. It is very easy to find public transportation to take you from to anywhere in Istanbul. There are hotels in many other parts of the city, however for those who are fond of tranquility, we can recommend accommodations situated away from the city proper on both the European and Asian sides of the Bosphorus.

Almost all of these hotels have views, swimming pools, saunas or Turkish baths (hamam), fitness centers, shopping facilities, hairdressers and health services. Luxury hotels have ritzy restaurants and clubs with live music, particularly jazz.

SPECIAL-CERTIFICATE HOTELS

However, in order to protect their historical qualities, these restored buildings lack modern facilities such as air conditioning, etc. Nevertheless, these are establishments of high quality with plenty of authentic atmosphere.

Two- and threestar hotels are more comfortable; with restaurants and bars in the hotel, as well as air conditioning. TV and a minibar in the rooms. All hotels have central heating, but the services they offer may vary.
